Re: Adjusting brightness on Asus GL502V
Hi PJ,
Thank you .
I have already tried all of those ! None of those worked but >> ( xrandr --output DP-2 --brightness 0.7 ) for ONLY brightness not the backlit keyboard and I believe that's being done on the software level and not on the hardware level, so it's not the most elegant solution they say.
Software level means what ?
God this is frustrating .
Thank you .

Re: Adjusting brightness on Asus GL502V
Check the support section of the manufacturer of your laptop for an updated BIOS. When available, install it.
No avail? Then try the latest kernel of the 4.18 series, by means of the reliable canonical-kernel-team PPA:

Re: Adjusting brightness on Asus GL502V
My Bios is already the latest ( 202 version for GL502VM ) I checked it.
There were no ( 4.18 series ) in Update Manager after doing (item 8, right column)
I could only see ...
Linux kernel 4.15.0-42.45
inux-4.15.0.42.44
linux-libc-dev
I installed all three anyway ! but did not solve my problem. Still can't adjust the Brightness and backlit keyboard.
I did ( Timeshift ) before installing the new kernel. I do not want to be on pre-release and test kernels ! Doing the Timeshift now.
Any suggestions ?
Just don't get it ! Simple things like Brightness and backlit keyboard should not be hard to solve.

Re: Adjusting brightness on Asus GL502V
You didn't apply step d of the how-to that I recommended in my previous message. That would have given you the latest 4.18 kernel.
As to your reluctance to try pre-release kernels: there are some fine Dutch sayings for that. Translated:
"If it can't be done the way it should, it should be done the way it can".
"You have to row with the oars that you have".
Reality sucks. But it's best to accept it and deal with it.

Re: Adjusting brightness on Asus GL502V
Step D you mean ...
d. From the menu, launch Update Manager. In the toolbar of Update Manager: View - Linux kernels Install the very latest kernel in the list
I did that ! I could only see Linux kernel 4.15.0-42.45 in update manager .
Any help ?
Maybe Linux mint sucks and I have to deal with it. I also don't want to compromise security and stability for just backlit keyboard and brightness ! It is not a wise thing to do. It should not be done the way it can cause it's just not worth it.
Thank you

I have an Asus laptop.
Go to Menu/Preferences/Power Management.
Click the Brightness tab and adjust.

Re: Adjusting brightness on Asus GL502V
I totally forgot to click on ( View and chose linux kernels ) in Update Manager last time.
Anyway, I installed 4.18 but that did not solve my problem ! Still backlit keyboard and brightness not working . Doing the Timeshift again !
Re: Adjusting brightness on Asus GL502V
I have done that before ! not working . Maybe it is working on your specific model.
As I mentioned before the only thing that works for brightness is " xrandr --output DP-2 --brightness 0.7 " https://sites.google.com/site/easylinux ... adjustable
Re: Adjusting brightness on Asus GL502V
Boot a Live USB/DVD and see if you can adjust brightness there. If so, you may need to reinstall, or adjust nvidia GPU settings, if possible.

Old topic that I just used to resolve my 1 remaining issue with LM 19.1 and my Asus GW551JW laptop. Worked just fine for me.
