Seeing as dkms didn't work, after a kernel update, you might be without wifi until you

make clean
make
sudo make install
Not sure why the dkms failed to put the 8821ce.ko in /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/updates/dkms folder or even seem to build it at all with the locate 8821ce.ko command failing to find anything
