Webcam working only in guvcview

Post by thistof »

I've searched for my exact problem and haven't found any mention of this.

I'm using a Lego Studios webcam, which shows up when I enter lsusb as:
Bus 006 Device 002: ID 046d:0850 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Web

It works fine in guvcview but when I open Cheese it says "no device found"
It also doesn't show up in Dragonframe or Linux Stopmotion, which is where I'm actually trying to use this camera.

This camera has always worked as plug and play in previous versions of Mint. I recently had to do a fresh install and I'm now on Tara. Not sure if that is why, but it's never been a problem before.

I see a Bug tracked at Ubuntu for 18.04 (base for Mint 19) that might be relevant to Logitech "Quickcams" family.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1770407

Which Kernel are you using?

Edit: FYI....no problems with Logitech C310 in Mint 19 for me: guvcview, cheese, skype all work.

Thank you. This bug seems to be consistent with what I'm experiencing. I tested VLC and the camera does work there as well.
My kernel version is: 4.15.0-39-generic
