I have a new laptop that I would like to install Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon on. It has a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti video card and a 15.6inch 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) touch screen. When I do the installation of Mint will it provide the best drivers for this video setup or should I try to install a driver from the NVIDIA site? Here is what I bought. I don't think I will dual boot this. I just want the Mint 19 on it.

Re: Best driver for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti
Just installing the newest driver from the mfr's site is second nature for WIndows users but not Linux users. There are issues with backwards compatiblity in Linux than aren't there in WIndows. Almost always the closed driver recommended my Mint Driver Manager is the best one.

Re: Best driver for NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti
Okay, so I should just go with the Mint driver? I've never had an Nvidia video card before with Linux, and always had a good experience using the default Mint driver for video. But I had heard that Nvidia video can be a problem with some Linux installs. That's why I'm double-checking before I do the install.Hoser Rob wrote: ⤴Wed Dec 05, 2018 11:42 am Just installing the newest driver from the mfr's site is second nature for WIndows users but not Linux users. I agree with Rob. I would also recommend you first install all current service updates from Update Manager (including most current 4.15 Kernel) before installing video driver.
FYI....I just installed Mint 19 Cinnamon to an Acer TC-885-UR18 with Intel i3-8100 "Coffee Lake" CPU/Integrated GPU a few weeks ago. No major problems. However, you might try testing with Live-USB for a while first.
