Kernel 4.19 / 4.18 - trackpoint and touchpad not working

Post by kettcar »

Hello,

I'm using a Lenovo Thinkpad L580 with LM19.
Since the Kernels 4.18 and 4.19 are out my trackpoint and touchpad are not working anymore. I don't mind using Kernel 4.15 but somehow this is annoying me and I don't know how to fix this.

It seems that this is some kind of elan i8042 error that happened to other users before.

Code: Select all

@Thinkpad-L580:~$ dmesg | grep -i elan
[ 2.845465] psmouse serio1: elantech: assuming hardware version 4 (with firmware version 0x5f3001)
[ 2.861376] psmouse serio1: elantech: Synaptics capabilities query result 0x90, 0x18, 0x10.
[ 2.876584] psmouse serio1: elantech: Elan sample query result 00, 22, c8
[ 2.948670] input: ETPS/2 Elantech TrackPoint as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input7
[ 2.971026] input: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input5
I wasn't successful to fix this with the solutions that are posted on the web, for example here.

Anyone with an additional advice? Help really appreciated! :)

If these are Ubuntu's 4.18 and 4.19 and it's working in Ubuntu 4.15 then file a bug report about the regression with Ubuntu, if these are mainline kernels then welcome to unsupported kernels.

Thanks for your advice.
I'm using ukuu to install the kernels from the ubuntu mainline (https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/).
So I'll stay with the LM provided kernel...

...correct choice
Seems a bug report has already been filled, you might want to keep an eye there (or even better help in resolving it quicker)...
Look here as well, appears to include a couple of possible temporary workarounds in the comments...
