USB 3.0 memory stick, id 0781:5590 Sandisk, stopped working in USB 3.0

Post by Petermint »

USB 3.0 memory stick, id 0781:5590 Sandisk, stopped working in USB 3.0 while continuing to work in USB 2 port. Other USB devices work across all ports. I have two of the sticks and both are not recognised in any USB 3 port.

The only messages in syslog at the time of the mount are:
gvfsd-metadata[1969]: g_udev_device_has_property: assertion 'G_UDEV_IS_DEVICE (device)' failed
gvfsd-metadata[1969]: message repeated 7 times: [ g_udev_device_has_property: assertion 'G_UDEV_IS_DEVICE (device)' failed]
They are mentioned in viewtopic.php?t=275768 and are a nemo problem, not USB.

Could be the memory stick. I have a bowl full of older Sandisk flash memory devices in 16 and 32GB capacities that exhibit the same behavior. Newer sticks and 64 and 128GB devices seem to be OK. If you have a powered USB3 hub available the problem sticks may work better with that.

I use Samsung branded devices almost exclusively now. They don't have the problem, but they cost more.
Hope is not a plan

Switched the machine off last night. They are working this morning.

Hub? Last night they failed in both the USB 3 port and the USB 3 hub I usually have plugged in.

The symptoms suggest your USB3 port has failed to perform as a USB2, not the stick's fault at all.
While you're waiting, read the free novel we sent you. It's a Spanish story about a guy named "manual".
