MacBookAir7,2 Camera Not Working

Hello Everyone,

I have Mint 19.1 installed on a MacBookAir7,2. The built in camera is not detected in Skype or Viber video chat applications.

It works fine on my older 2011 Macbook Air 11" with Mint 19.1 installed.

Any guidance on drivers/setup etc?

PS: I have tried several dispos over the last few years, Mint 19.1 is the one that can finally replace my main OS. I love it, thanks to all that worked hard create it.

Look at this post https://unlockforus.com/linux-mint-17-2 ... ht-webcam/ . I think I have this file for the camera, so if you need it, I try to find it on my backups.

Hello pilotnerd, that was a good idea to post your system info... next time, please post it as text (it's text after all... you can just paste it) and enclose it in code tags using the </> button. That way, it's easier to read right inside your post. Thanks!

Thank you very much Joan_2018! Looks like a great guide. I am at work, but will try this on my other laptop when I get down time at home.

Is there any way I can somehow contribute testing or something to help the developers incorporate this fix in a future update?

Hello Moem,

Thanks for the quick reply and feedback. I tried to just attach the plain text export fire from the system info report, but the forum program would not let me.

I wasn't sure if including it in the post would be too many characters or something.

I love Linux Mint 19.1 and want to get more involved in the support community as I learn more.

SO refreshing to finally have a Linux distro that I can really replace OSX and WIN10 with!

Hope you guys all have a great day.

Please pardon my lack of knowledge, I want to learn more about how drivers work in Linux:

1. My older 2011 Macbook Air 11" (MacBookAir4,1) camera works great in Mint 19.1 by default. No drivers to configure or anything.
2. My a little newer 2015 Macbook Air 13" ( ) camera doesen't work at all.

-I tried running the "Driver Manager" application on both. It only shows the Broadcom Wifi device not the camera.
-Where can I read about and learn why the camera works out of the box on the older one but not on the newer one?
-Why does neither one show the camera in "Driver Manager" only the Broadcom Wifi?

Thank you very much for any feedback, if these questions are answered elsewhere I apologize in advance, please link me there.

Thank you very much for your time.

It's a hit or miss for Macbook cameras to work in Linux. It depends on the model year. I have never had it working on anything older than 2014 models.
Your Air is a 2015 model. I am afraid you won't be able to get it to work.
Give it a try https://smallbusiness.chron.com/use-isi ... 38894.html

No no, that's fine. It's best if you enclose it in the code tags, that way it will be in a neat, scrollable box and the blockquotes will be kept so it reads easier.

...Yamaha, hmm? I'm a Honda gal myself, but Yamaha is okay too. :)
