Hello

I'm running Linux Mint 19.1 Xfce on dual boot with Windows 10. All things seem ok, but the touchpad isn't detected.

I'm using fcitx for typing vietnamese.

Here are some informations about the computer ans the system

Just to be sure, go to Menu, Mouse, Touchpad & be sure 'Enable Touchpad' is checked.

Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately I clicked on activate the mouse and for the moment my mouse is out of order. Sorry, can you give me the command for re-activating my mouse in a terminal?
As written I use Xfce and libinput.

I connected an other mouse on my computer. It was directly recognized and active. So I could re-activate my first mouse.
This little problem is solved.

In the settings of the Mouse - Touchpad there is no touchpad available.
In the file I attached you can see that my first mouse is recognized twice.
I unplugged my first mouse and plug my second mouse which recognized only one time ; no touchpad available.

What is your idea for solving my problem ?

Can you turn it on by pressing Fn & F7 together on your keyboard? If not, it may be a driver/kernel issue, but I'm not sure. Maybe someone else will know.

I had a similiar touchpad problem with this Lenovo Ideapad. Upgrading to kernel 4.18.0-15 was the solution.

I actually just tested the 4.18.20 kernel, and the touchpad did not work after reboot. I returned to above mentioned kernel and it's ok again :-)
Need to test further ...

For me activating the touchpad with the keyboard needs to press together Fn + F9. But pressing these buttons gave no result.

Can someone help me ?

Thank you.

Hi,

I am on the hunt for maybe the same problem.

I have an Thinkpad L390 here, Mint 19.1 Cinnamon, 4.19.0. and my touchpad is not working after booting Mint. My workaround is to shortly suspend the thinkpad by pressing (fn + 4) (yes, not F4). (awake again with single "fn" button) Afterwards the touchpad is working fine.

Trying FN+F9 or FN+F11 / FN+12 has no effect.

In System Options the Touchpad is enabled, though it's not responding at the beginning. Does suspending work for you as well?

Best whishes

since your hardware differs from the OP's, both you and him/her are better served with separate threads...
In any case, try:
xed admin:///etc/default/grub
Modify / add there as follows:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="psmouse.elantech_smbus=0 quiet splash"
Save, run sudo update-grub, reboot. No guarantee, worths a shot though.

I had same problem but with a Toshiba. Jeremyb provided the fix that worked for me. probably need to substitute your bios and touchpad fkeys but its so easy its worth a try.

can't really help beyond that since I'm just a newbie as well

that was actually exactly what i've meant, yes. The last weeks I had a new Thinkpad with the problems that might match yours: The Touchpad wasn't working, though being enabled. After suspending the device into sleep mode and awake afterwards the touchpad was working correctly. This has been working for me in all times. Nevertheless, that wouldn't be a real solution.
