Linux Mint 19.1 on Matebook 13 runs hotter than Win10
I installed Linux Mint 19.1 (dual boot, Cinnamon) on my brand new Huawei Matebook 13 and updated kernel to 5.02 version. Everything works fine except one thing -- mint has higher cpu temp than Win10. Win10 idle temp is around 28-30C and Mint is 38-40C. It is critical because fans started to work much earlier and I am getting fan noise when for example just watch some youtube video (around 50C for fans to start moving). So no more quiet time for me on mint. I tried cpu freq controlling program to underclock and tlp but it didnt help. I really like mint but this heating problem is crucial for me. What else should I try to get the same temperatures as Win10?

Maybe something here:
https://itsfoss.com/reduce-overheating-laptops-linux/
You have to start tlp the first time, then it's automatic:

You have to start tlp the first time, then it's automatic:
Code: Select all
sudo tlp start

I started tlp correctly. Also I tried everything from https://itsfoss.com/reduce-overheating-laptops-linux/ but no luck at all. I observe no high cpu load processes while idle in Mint, so I have no idea why is it hotter than Win10. XFCE instead of Cinnamon gave no good result too.

If you post the results of this command, someone may have some ideas:
Code: Select all
inxi -Fxzd

I just booted up this 11 year old HP Pavillion dv6700 about 10 minutes ago.Running LM 18.2 Cinnamon and cpu temp:38*c nvidia vid card:54*c ssd:34*c. These temperatures increase conciderably once streaming vid and stuff.Higher temps are normal in Linux. My fan runs a lot but it's all worth it,as far as I'm concerned.I abandoned microsoft a year and a half ago for Linux.Never going back.

Are you still dual-booting? Maybe you could help investigate battery protection...FumeKnight wrote: ⤴Sun Mar 17, 2019 1:15 pm I installed Linux Mint 19.1 (dual boot, Cinnamon) on my brand new Huawei Matebook 13
