[SOLVED] Keyboard unresponsive after resume from suspend (HP dv7, LM19.1)

Post by JChristensen »

This is a problem I experienced after installing LM19.1 on an older HP laptop and found a fix for. There still may be a slight delay after waking from suspend before the keyboard works. But it is now consistent and just a very few seconds. Perhaps this is caused by the keyboard reset. The machine had previously run LM18.3 for quite some time and did not experience this issue then.

Issue:
Keyboard and mouse intermittently unresponsive after resume from suspend.
Severity of the issue varies. Sometimes clears itself after several seconds,
sometimes keyboard is completely unresponsive or nearly so. Mouse pointer
movement is also jerky and intermittent.

Found various i8042 errors in /var/log/syslog and also in dmesg, e.g.:

Solution:
1. In /etc/default/grub, added "atkbd.reset" to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT so it reads:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="noquiet splash atkbd.reset"
2. sudo update-grub
3. reboot
