<SOLVED> Dell Inspiron 15... close lid suspends, then reboots running with lid closed

Post by revdjenk » Sat Jul 20, 2019 5:53 pm

in System Settings > Power Management, I have "suspend" selected for lid close for both AC and battery modes.

When I close the lid, it appears that a restart happens, not a suspend. Lifting the lid shows the screen is on, and the computer running.This is not good, especially on battery power!

I am running 19.1 64bit Cinnamon. New 512 Gb SSD. Linuxmint only.

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- Copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

I followed info here: https://itsfoss.com/ubuntu-close-lid-suspend/ which now works when closing lid while UNPLUGGED.
However, when the laptop is plugged in, and I close the lid, the system reboots, and remains running. If I unplug, then open screen, it is dead. And I must do a hard/cold reboot. If I unplug while running and then close lid, now it come back from hibernation.

I usually use this plugged in anyway, but ...
I've never seen this happen with any other device. And Dell machines have generally been faultless with Linux.

I installed kernel 5.0.0-36 ... and suspend works...plugged, or unplugged.
Open lid, hit enter, system resotred!
