USB external drives

Post by stewschneider »

I'm ashamed to admit, but my dementia has taken even more of my knowledge than I thought. Here's what happened. I have a 1TB external USB drive. I couldn't get it to function properly. The more frustrated I became, the more ill-advised things I did. It now no longer shows up in fstab. mount doesn't see it. fdisk complains that it can't write a new partition and I'm totally lost. I am so sorry to take up anyone's time on this, and I certainly could simply replace it, but I'd love to know how I should approach this. Any help for an old man operating beyond his abilities?

Please post the output of these two terminal commands:

Code: Select all

sudo blkid

Code: Select all

lsblk -o MODEL,SIZE,NAME -d
Enclose the results between [ⅽode] and [/ⅽode] code markers by selecting </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply. You can copy the text from the terminal screen by selecting it with the mouse then right-clicking.
