problem luminosity control

Post by Germain092019 » Fri Sep 06, 2019 6:41 am

I post this topic because I recently reinstalled my PC with the latest cinnamon version.
However, I used the new driver (open-source). Needing a secondary screen, I had to install the proprietary drivers because I had video problems that bug when I switch to TV and other small problems.
I specify that I have a vaio fz31z with a geforce 8600m gs graphics card. I know it's not new, but it's enough for me.
Except that since the installation of this driver, I have a maximum brightness at startup, and the keys fn+F5/F6 no work.
After some research, it turns out that this problem was recurrent.
Many solutions have been given, which I have tried, but none of them work in my case. And I don't know enough to continue. Here's what I tried:

1] to add "acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor" on the line

Code: Select all

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash acpi_osi=Linux acpi_backlight=vendor"
in the /etc/default/grub file

2] to add :

Code: Select all

"RegistryDwords" option "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
in the file /etc/X11/xorg.conf in the "Device" section

3] created the file /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
and put the following elements in it:

Code: Select all

"Device" section
  Identify "Device0"
  Driver "nvidia"
  VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation"
  BoardName "Geforce 8600M GS"
  "RegistryDwords" option "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
4] I also found this topic: ... omments/75

by typing

Code: Select all

in a terminal, and I press:
_ fn+F5 I opt
video/brightnessdown BRTDN 0000087 000000000000K
sony/hotkey SNY5001:00 0000000001 0000000010
sony/hotkey SNY5001:00 0000000001 0000003b
_ fn+F6 I opt
video/brightnessup BRTUP 0000087 000000000000K
sony/hotkey SNY5001:00 0000000001 0000000011
sony/hotkey SNY5001:00 0000000001 0000003b
This proves that the keys are well recognized????
However, I don't really understand the rest of the process.
Especially since when I go to the /etc/acpi/events folder, I don't have any files called sony-brightness-up or sony-brightness-down.

I tried these different cumulative solutions, or alone, but I had to forget some cases!

Can you help me, please?
