FIngerprint Reader

Post by carlnielsen » Tue Sep 10, 2019 2:57 pm

Brand new Lenovo E590 laptop. Out the box with Windows 10, fingerprint reader works perfectly. Have now replaced Win 10 with Mint 19.2 MATE and have installed Fingerprint GUI but no luck. Apparently my reader should be supported, but lsusb is not showing it:
sudo lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 06cb:00a2 Synaptics, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 04f2:b604 Chicony Electronics Co., Ltd
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 8087:0025 Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Digging around I've identified the Chicony device as being the integrated camera, the Intel device is the bluetooth controller and I think the Synaptics is presumably the touchpad, though I can't be certain of that.

So I'm not sure why the FPR is not showing up at all. Any advice appreciated.

Of course the fingerprint works in Windows - and in macOS, iOS, Android and whatever... that's what these systems are for...

Since the individual fingerprint is already stored by Windows 10 - we also do this in Linux.

Ingenious how monitoring works. But somehow it's a pity about GNU/Linux.
Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia (Mate) 32-bit - Acer D250 Netbook (Intel Atom N270, 2 GB RAM, 120 GB SSD)
Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa (Mate) 64-bit - MacBook Pro 15" (Intel Core2 Duo, 8 GB RAM, 240 GB SSD) - with some separation difficulties...

Hello carlnielsen,
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 06cb:00a2 Synaptics, Inc.
That is the fingerprint reader, but this is what I found in the Linux Hardware database for different Lenovo Thinkpad E & L models:

From a probe text:
A driver for the device is not found in any Linux kernel versions or known additional packages.
