Network manager doesn't start

I just updated the kernel from 4.18 to 5.00 and upon startup, the network manager doesn't start.
I have to manually give the command

sudo service network-manager restart

and then it works.

Any way I can check what's the problem?

Is there any command I can try to check why network manager is not starting at the startup?

Maybe you broke systemd like I did? Check. Also when the boot menu appears, use down arrow and in Advanced area try one that has the word "upstart" by it, instead of "recover mode".

if you upgraded the kernel that might tell you something. go back to the DEFAULT 4.15 not 4.18 and if 5 doesn't work for you try 5.3
also if you have to manually sudo service network-manager restart that means you can also make it permanent, but i wouldn't go down deeper into that rabbit hole if you don't know why your network isn't working the way it did before

timeshift to when the system worked and try again. most of these issues are always resolved by the OP user

i tried to use also timeshift but I'm having the same problem.
Moreover now even after the manual restart I can't connect to new networks. It's really weird.
