N4000 chip, Cinnamon and battery readings

Post by tpprynn »

I had to send a laptop back a little while ago as it had a few faults, one being a cranky battery, which seemed to lose capacity drastically in a few days, as well as give incomplete data when tested with software, both Windows and Linux. I have bought another, also emmc-based, laptop with a clearly better battery - allegedly up to fourteen hours - and no other faults but it has the same N4000 processor. It does have an insanely good battery it seems, but the readings from the panel applet are erratic - often it goes back to showing specifically 10 hours and one minute or maybe six hours left. Is this going to be erratic until this laptop is not so new as to be not catered to as well in Linux? Or is there something I can do to get the applet to be nearer consistent? Obviously I'm doing different things with different impacts but it still seems a bit off. I have seen this kind of thing before with Gnome Shell and new laptops. Is it even a current bug?

64 bit Mint Cinnamon, updates applied.
