[Solved] Optimize SSD in Linux?

Post by hal_sk »

Hi,
Is it recommended to optimize solid-state drive (SSD) in Linux Mint? If yes, is optimization performed regularly and automatically (like in Windows 10) or should I manually use some software to do the work. If yes what software?

Every Monday morning it will TRIM. You can manually TRIM by running this in the Terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo fstrim -va
You can see if TRIM is scheduled:

Code: Select all

systemctl status fstrim.timer
When last done:

Code: Select all

journalctl | grep fstrim
-If nothings shows wait until Monday or thereafter.

Another way (which seems to be faster) to check on fstrim is journalctl -u fstrim. This will work for any systemd unit.
