XPS 15 9500 with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti with 19.3

Post by paulspratley »

Hi All,

I have just splashed out on the latest Dell XPS 15 (9500). Amazing machine BTW.

I have installed Linux Mint and everything else works perfectly but I cannot seem to get it to recognise the GTX 1650. The driver manager simply says "No propriety drivers are in use"

I tried installing the latest version of Pop_OS and this works fine & it recognizes the card immediately. But I'm Mint fan as its just so much better (IMHO).

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the help

Paul

Hi DorsetUK

Followed the instructions and looked like I needed nvidia-driver-440 but after a reboot I now have a completely black screen. Any advice?

Cheers

Paul

Well luckily it seems that it was the user login screen that was just black. I blindly typed in my password and was able to login.

However, still have the same problem though. The card is not recognized

Whoops!

Both your cards are recognised.

Hey Dorset,

The latest is that it seems to be all working.

I installed the Nvidia-settings package and this time I can see all the settings and see that the GPU is in use (this seems to be the only way I can tell if it is being used rather that the integrated Intel GPU).

However nothing appears in the Driver Manager - but reading the article more carefully it does say that it might not appear here as the drivers are too new. I still cannot see the user login screen so have to type my password in blindly but hey more secure this way right? lol

Thanks for your help - really appreciate it!

Cheers

Paul
