Build-in ASUS USB2.0 WebCam not recognized by any program

Post by Pieter_F »

Hi all,

I'm running Linux Mint 19.3 Xfce on an old ASUS K53SV laptop and can't get the build-in USB2.0 webcam to work. I'm at the point where I have read a lot of topics, tried multiple programs (vlc, guvcview, cheese, qv4l2) but the symptoms are identical for all tools when I try to access /dev/video0: green LED of the webcam is enabled, but the image itself remains totally black. When checking "dmesg" I notice failures from uvcvideo.

Any other suggestions to troubleshoot this any further?

Re: Build-in ASUS USB2.0 WebCam not recognized by any program

Post by Meccanico562 »

I use an Asus K56CA, I'd put money on our laptops both having the same mediocre webcam in the lid. My Asus came with a 24gb SSD built into the motherboard that houses all of the drivers required for this specific laptop. If someone can help us find this drive in Mint, I can pull the driver from it and upload it to my Google Drive then give you the URL to download it.
