Driver issues after latest windows update

Post by asosem »

Hello all,

After the most recent windows update my linux Mint installation has been acting up. Every time I restart it goes

1. attempt to read or write outside of disk 'hd0'
This was the first issue I saw, it doesn't come back as often as it used to but it still sometimes appears. I used this link when attempting to fix the issue
2. Starts in command line mint. Sometimes this shows errors in the cmd line, other times it does not. I will try and see if i can get the logs of these errors and attach
3. linux starts but my video driver seems messed up, or it works. Not sure why it flip flops. I did try purging all nvidia drivers and reinstalling but it still flip flops on restart. Here are the 'inxi -Gxxx' differences

(Bad)Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GP104 [GeForce GTX 1070] vendor: Gigabyte
driver: nvidia v: 440.59 bus ID: 01:00.0 chip ID: 10de:1b81
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.5 driver: fbdev,modesetting,nouveau
unloaded: vesa resolution: 640x480~73Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 9.0 256 bits) v: 3.3 Mesa 19.2.8
compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes

(Working)Graphics:
Device-1: NVIDIA GP104 [GeForce GTX 1070] vendor: Gigabyte driver: nvidia
v: 440.59 bus ID: 01:00.0 chip ID: 10de:1b81
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.5 driver: nvidia
unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,nouveau,vesa
resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz, 3840x2160~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: GeForce GTX 1070/PCIe/SSE2 v: 4.6.0 NVIDIA 440.59
direct render: Yes

So not sure if this truly belongs in the hardware section, but I thought I'd start here since I had some graphics info.

Let me know if you need anything more
Thanks
