Secondary HD Intermittently Inaccessable

I have some video and backup files on a secondary internal hard drive that have suddenly become inaccessible on occasion. The drive always shows up in file manager but sometimes it's contents are blank. If I reboot, the contents always reappear.
It seems like this started happening after I began using the secondary HD as the target drive for Timeshift backups. That could just be a coincidence, though. The primary drive contains all boot and system files for Mint. The secondary one is only used as an auxiliary drive. I'm running Tricia 19.3 Xfce.

That is an interesting problem. Could it be as simple as the drive is not mounted? Next time go into Disks to see if the drive is mounted when file manager cannot see it.
Please post the results of all these commands, and say whether the drive is visible when you run these:
Code: Select all
lsblk -o NAME,FSTYPE,MOUNTPOINT,LABEL,UUID

Thanks for answering. Yes, the drive is shown as mounted when the contents are blank (first thing I checked

).
Here are the command results you asked for (secondary drive files visible):
Code: Select all
$ inxi -Fxxxrz

I don't see any blaring issues. So sdb has 58 BG on it. The video and backup files that are sometimes not visible are a small part of the total? Are all these files within the Timeshift snapshot directory? If not, what is the context of the files? Can you put other files in the directory that is missing files, and then they all show up along with the video and backup files after a reboot. Then later do the video and backup files disappear and the other files remain? Or do they disappear too?
I assume there are no Windows directories and no "Fast boot" option turned on in the bios.

Just curious, what does fstab show for the secondary drive? Please post the results for the following command:

Sure...
Code: Select all
$ cat /etc/fstab
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
UUID=54b332b4-8bd9-4b54-af12-1c0cad44adc1 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1
/swapfile none swap sw 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto,exec,utf8 0 0

See if this eliminates the problem. Add the following line to your /etc/fstab:
Code: Select all
UUID=9e70f9df-44c3-4676-ba8a-29632da4fb89 /media/zilcro/HD2 ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1

Thanks. I have added it & we'll see what happens. What does that do anyway? Does it force some sort of "auto re-mount"?
BTW, love your sig banner

.

@zilcro - Adding that line to fstab mounts your secondary drive when the machine boots instead of trying to mount when you select it.

Ah, got it. Thanks for clarifying.
