Onboard laptop speakers only work when...

I have a Dragonfly USB Dac. If it is plugged in my onboard speakers will not work when I boot up. If I unplug them and restart they will not work. However, if I unplug the DAC, shutdown, and wait a few minutes, then reboot with Dragonfly unplugged, they will work. Any idea what might be going on here? Thank you in advance for your help.

Have you tried changing the output in pavucontrol? That usually works better than the default sound settings. If yes, run this in both working and non-working scenarios:

What I meant is to run that command when the sound is working, and copy the URL on the last line to paste here. Do the same when it isn't working.

Now they are working! I cannot seem to replicate the problem. Strange. As soon as it happens again, I will post url.

I'm suspecting Gremlins!

Is Windows also on this machine? That shutting down for minutes helping makes me suspect it is.
