[SOLVED]USB keyboard not responding

Post by VirajPrateek »

I've a very old laptop (hp630) - i3/2gb. I've installed Linux Mint 20 on it last year. Everything was fine until a week back when I plugged in my lenovo usb keyboard and it doesn't work. The facts of the case are as follows -
  • The keyboard is listed in the device list.
  • The caps lock light glows on it when I press the laptop keyboard caps lock.
  • Sometimes(like 5% of times) the keyboard gives input but the keys remains pressed (i.e. keeps printing the same key)
  • The keyboard runs fine on other devices(tested for dell/win10 and mobile devices via otg)
  • The keyboard was running fine until the previous week on this laptop as well.
  • Keyboard doesn't work in bios menu too.
  • USB ports are good because I plugged in usb mouse and it runs fine. It's only this keyboard that is not running. ( I haven't tried any other keyboards on this system.
  • I've tried shutting down and removing battery and then connecting again and again. Nothing helped.
inxi-Fxz output -

If you decide to share that info:

With the USB keyboard plugged in, open a Terminal (Ctrl-Alt-T), then copy-and-paste the following command...

Code: Select all

lsusb -tv
Post the output of that command in a reply here.

Linux Mint 21 Vanessa, MATE 1.26.0, kernel 5.15.0*, Dell 2-in-1
AMD Ryzen 7 5825U / Barcelo iGPU - 14" WUXGA Touchscreen

Re: USB keyboard not responding

Post by VirajPrateek »

If anyone stumbles upon this issue, wanted to update that - for me, it was a power issue.
My laptop charger was leaking current to the laptop's body.
Also because my battery was completely worn out, I realized, it must be some interference in the power cycle of the USB devices.
So I changed the adapter and the battery, and everything is good now.
