Fingerprint reader help

Post by jimmy-r87 »

I have tried to install software to get my fingerprint reader working in mint, don't think there's any support for it but I'm not sure.
Anyone have any experience setting one up?

I'm not sure how to show the information about the fingerprint reader as its built into my laptop. If any other information is required if you could suggest the apropriate terminal command I can post the output :)

Hey friend, did you get it to work? I did. I have a Lenovo X1 Carbon and it works fine for me. The only issue that I have is that requires password everytime for the first log in of the day, other than that, I use the fingerprint reader to unlock the computer. Maybe there is more that I need to know about the this, but at least, it works for me. The software is located on the software manager it is called "fprintd".

A quick tutorial online can help you with that. Please let me know if it worked for you. :D :)

It looks like you have the Synaptic/Validity hardware which does not work out of the box. I had similar issues with my Thinkpad T480 and I eventually got it working, but it was super unreliable for me, so I gave up.

If you are motivated, there are some people working on this: https://github.com/nmikhailov/Validity90
