No HDMI signal through USB Adapter
Hi guys,
My problem is similar to this one: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=346850&p=2000493&h ... r#p2000493
No matter what kind of HDMI adapter I use (HDMI to adapter to USB-C to laptop) it doesn't work. It sees all devices from the adapter, but no HDMI.
Do you have any ideas how to fix it ?

That person posted the information Section 5 of READ: How To Get Help! indicates should be provided. You have yet to do that.birkopf wrote: ⤴Mon Apr 19, 2021 5:41 pmMy problem is similar to this one: viewtopic.php?f=49&t=346850&p=2000493&h ... r#p2000493
This type of issue often relates to the hardware being used. Have you checked the laptop's specs to make sure what you are attempting to do is the way to get that type of situation to work as you want it to work?

Re: No HDMI signal through USB Adapter
You have a laptop with dual graphics. Currently your system is set up to only use the onboard Intel graphics. Many dual laptop graphics are wired such that Nvidia is what runs the HDMI port.
Graphics:
Device-1: Intel UHD Graphics 620 vendor: Micro-Star MSI driver: i915
v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0 chip ID: 8086:5917
Device-2: NVIDIA GP108M [GeForce MX150] vendor: Micro-Star MSI
driver: nouveau v: kernel bus ID: 03:00.0 chip ID: 10de:1d10
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.9 driver: modesetting unloaded: fbdev,vesa
resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa Intel UHD Graphics 620 (KBL GT2) v: 4.6 Mesa 20.2.6
direct render: Yes
Does the converter indicate it might need a driver to work properly? Some docking stations do require a driver, but I do not know if that one does.
Your xrandr info is only showing your laptop screen and an HDMI port. Have you tried connecting your monitor to the HDMI port to see if you get graphics? If not, I suggest installing the Nvidia driver and switching to On-Demand mode in the nvidia-prime-applet.
(Let us know if you do not see the nvidia-prime-applet. There have been some recent bugs in some files and you may need to modify some code to get it to work properly.)

I do not know what graphics (Intel or Nvidia) your system runs through the USB-C port.

Re: No HDMI signal through USB Adapter
Hey, I setup to Intel card because on Mint it actually gives me advantage because I can work for 8h on battery, nvidia gives me more on Windows. I actually thought of that before posting and I have switched to nVidia hoping it will help but there is no difference. I have managed to get that boot log. it seems to be complaining about USB. I had to sanitize the log a bit...
To your point made earlier - I think it has problem running any graphic card through the USB port.
I searched producers website and wrote to them but they never answered and they have no drivers on their website. If there will be any driver it should be generic.
HDMI connected directly to my HDMI port works like a charm but I still need to make it working from that adapter.

Re: No HDMI signal through USB Adapter
Maybe try running
lsusb
to see if you can determine which port is the one which can not be enabled? That not being enabled might be related to the upower.service timing out. Running a display through a usb-c port does require more resources than attaching a keyboard or other peripherals.
Maybe someone else will have ideas on what may be happening.

Re: No HDMI signal through USB Adapter
Since you indicated you are able to use other devices through the converter, I assume it is connected on Bus 001 which is a USB 2.0 connection.
These devices attached to Bus 002 are on a USB 3.0 connection.
This data lists usb connections which may be entirely internal to the computer, so I can not tell if there is an external USB 3.0 port on your computer or if the external ports are just USB 2.0. I would have thought one would need a USB 3.0 connection to be able to pass video, but I really do not know.
Maybe someone else can help.
