Document Camera not working after change of laptop from to 20.1

Post by uss1701 »

Hello everyone,
for homeschooling a document camera (Optoma DC450) is used.
It ran without major problems (natively) on the previous laptop (Acer Extensa 15) which ran Linux Mint 20 with cinnamon with kernel version 5.4.72
Then we changed the laptop to a lenovo Thinkbook 14 G2 ARE which runs Linux Mint 20.1 with cinnanom with kernel version 5.8.0-50
The exact system data for both laptops can be found down below.

Sometimes the document camera is shown on lsusb but it always takes quite a while to load and most of the times simply doesn't show it.
The camera can sometimes be used as an input on the browser as camera, but there never apears an image (we use BigBlueButton as video conference), a similar behaviour can be observed with other utilites like cheese (never an image to be seen).

If it is plugged in at startup the the login screen remains black for a while and if I open a virtual terminal the following error messages are shown:

Code: Select all

[ 27.567759] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -110
[ 43.183861] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/64, error -110
[ 49.199927] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110
[ 54.575942] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110
[ 59.951832] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110
[ 65.327778] usb 1-2: device descriptor read/8, error -110
[ 65.435727] usb usb1-port2: unable to enumerate USB device

All devices are connect to their power supplies and several restarts in differing sequence haven't worked, The driver managment does not show any drivers missing and the system should be up to date.
We would be very grateful for any help you can offer or guidance on which further information is needed

Both sets of data posted are for the Lenovo.

It might be a difference in the specs of the usb port being used on the computer?

If this is the correct camera, it appears to indicate it has usb2.0 input.

If this is the correct Acer, it indicates is has two USB2.0 and one USB3.1 Gen1.

The Lenovo indicates it has
2 x USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (DisplayPort & power delivery)
2 x USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 (1 always on)

Have you tried using a different port on the Lenovo to see if there is a difference?
