Post by axrusar »

Hello. i have this adapter i am plugin into my laptop but i can not see it when i run

Code: Select all

lsusb

Code: Select all

 $lsusb
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 8087:0a2a Intel Corp.
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:58f5 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Integrated_Webcam_HD
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 046d:c534 Logitech, Inc. Unifying Receiver
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
I installed the realtek driver found here: https://www.realtek.com/en/component/zo ... 0-software
After i installed it i run

Code: Select all

depmod -a
I am using the cinnamon network connections applet, there is an option to add (+) a new connection, i choose Ethernet, and then there is nothing available in the drop down list to choose as an adapter.

The led light is on on the USB adapter so i am assuming the thing works.

Please help. thank you!

Try a different USB port and see if it appears in lsusb.

The TP-Link UE300 uses the Realtek 8153, which Mint supports without an external driver. I have a USB-to-Ethernet adapter with an 8153.

An LED may indicate that power is applied, it doesn't necessarily mean a device is functional.

Might your laptop's USB Type-A port have a problem with some USB-3 devices? Use an adapter to test the UE300 in your Type-C USB port.
