Random microphone icon is showing

Post by markanos »

Greetings all,
After a fresh install and after all the updates for Mint 20.1 Cinnamon edition, I am noticing microphone icon showing at random times.
I am fairly new to linux. I am suspecting that systemd (or something else, I am very new) does not have proper keybindings for my laptop.

here is system information

and here is what i see when I run sudo showkey command.

Code: Select all

.keycode 52 press
keycode 52 release
keycode 190 press
keycode 190 release
keycode 190 press
keycode 190 release
1keycode 2 press
keycode 2 release
keycode 56 press
keycode 42 press
Also, by grepping

Code: Select all

/lib/udev$ grep -r mute
I noticed that there are some keys marked as mute keys which is what I suspect that is happening.

My laptop, Ideapad 700, does not have special key for muting microphone.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you in advance
