Middle Mouse Button Click Stopped Working

Post by gnz »

Hi All

When I click the middle mouse button it no longer pastes. As a consequence, middle clicking browser tabs no longer opens a new tab. A small, but very annoying problem.

This has just happened recently after working through all OS versions as well as the current version.

When I run 'xev -event button', the middle click does not register an event.
The scroll wheel does work.
Changing to a different mouse is not the answer.
None of the other fixes I have found work.

Any ideas?

Workaround: For Cinnamon, launch Mint Mouse and Touchpad settings. Enable Emulate middle click by clicking both left and right buttons.

Gets easier with practice of ♪ ♫ Chopsticks ♬ ♪ ;)

Yup - thanks for that. I had already set that and it does work.

However, the original question still stands and remains a mystery.

Thanks
