How to enable the parallel port in Linux 20.1

Post by Mopar512 »

I need to get the parallel port enabled on my Linux Mint 20.1 machine so I can use the AVR software programmer called Ponyprog. I have the hardware interface installed on the parallel port but Ponyprog cannot access it.

From what I can find out is that a module called parport_pc needs to be loaded and running on the machine. I can do a lsmod command and the parport_pc module is present but is not running. All of the information I can find on the internet seems to be for kernals older than what is in Lunix Mint 20.1 and I cannot discover the command needed to start the module running.

Also something else I cannot find is the configuration file that loads paraport_pc on on start up.

Can anyone help me figure out how to solve this issue?

Thanks to anyone who knows the solution to this problem.
