[SOLVED]Lenovo Flex 5 & No Hardware Video Acceleration

Post by Jator »

Just picked up this nice lapptop off Amazon Prime Day. I've swapped out the HDD and installed Mint Linux 20.1 and applied all updates. However, I'm still getting the No Hardware Acceleration warning. I've read a few older posts about unsigned kernals and secure boot disabling, but before I try and figure all that out, wondering if anyone has a more update experience or reccomendation.

Here's my inxi:

According to this (https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page= ... Experiment) the kernel support for the 4000 card in the 5.4 kernel is 'experimental'.

I'd go into update manager > view kernels and install the newest one on the list. Then reboot. That's a pretty new machine.

You are getting that message because there are no graphics drivers installed. Renoir graphics need at least the 5.8 kernel in order for the amdgpu driver to install.

Graphics:
Device-1: AMD Renoir vendor: Lenovo driver: N/A bus ID: 04:00.0
chip ID: 1002:1636
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.9 driver: ati,fbdev
unloaded: modesetting,radeon,vesa resolution: 1920x1080~77Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 11.0.0 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 20.2.6
compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes

Open Update Manager. Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue. Make sure 5.8 or 5.11 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear. Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.

Either 5.8 or 5.11 should install the necessary graphics driver. The driver is not available with the 5.4 kernel.

Thanks, no more warnings with the upgrade to 5.11. Yes, very new hardware, was trying to convert an old ChromeBook into a Mint Linux machine but too much headache trying to convert from ChromeOS, so picked this up on PrimeDay.
