Sound Doesn't Work After Booting (Possible Sound Card Problem)

Post by dumb_apple »

Hello everyone and thanks in advance for reading.
I run a dual-boot system with Windows 10 and Linux Mint 20.2 Cinnamon at the moment.
I had made a topic about my sound problem before and later I fixed it by reloading ALSA with "sudo alsa force-reload" command.
The problem came back though and that time the command didn't help.

The problem in brief: every time I boot up the OS, the sound may work or it may not. I have no idea what could cause this.
I already know that when I do not hear the OS "Greetings" sound - the problem is back. But for some reason some applications work. Spotify and Element work all the time; VLC works sometimes; Firefox and other applications don't work - I cannot hear anything. In Sound Settings though it tells me that "No application is currently playing or recording audio" regardless.

I've tried:
  • Reloading ALSA with: "sudo alsa force-reload" - worked several times.
  • Purging ALSA and Pulseaudio and reinstalling - didn't work.
  • Installing some additional sound drivers - worked once. (the command was on this forum but I cannot find it now)
  • Changing Linux Kernel: 5.11 to 5.4 - didn't work.
I've installed pavucontrol and it doesn't see my Internal Sound Card ("screenshot_1"). On the screenshot there is only my GPU sound card and my microphone. It does see it when the sound is working. Sometimes it does see my Internal Sound Card but there are no "Analog Stereo" option available, only "Digital".

You could try the following...Thanks to Catweazel..

sudo nano -w /etc/pulse/default.pa

Look for a line that reads load-module module-udev-detect.
Modify the line by adding a space plus tsched=0 so that the line looks like this:
load-module module-udev-detect tsched=0

Then restart Pulseaudio..
pulseaudio -k
pulseaudio --start
