GIGABYTE AORUS 7 KB Keyboard and power button stops responding

Post by Jeronimo17 »

Hello,

coming from here viewtopic.php?f=49&t=344425&p=2022029#p2022029 I open a new post because the Linux kernel version is different and Linux Mint too, even the reported bug.

I already thought that I was free of this problem, which happens very very rarely, but always playing, I thought it was a thermald thing so I deactivated it a long time ago and without problem until today, I was playing but this time through geforcenow_1.1.4_linux.AppImage (a streaming game service) so it has nothing to do with the temperature

Well, while I was playing with the internal keyboard it blocked me again, I connected a USB keyboard that responds (like other times) although slowly and it has lost the ES configuration, it did not seem the US either (the numbers above the letters did not respond ) and I have consulted the dmesg and nothing strange appears, I have consulted the journalctl and a problem appears with the sound when it has failed.

As always when the fault appears, I try to restart and the last step of cutting power to the laptop does not happen, I have to remove battery + remove power to force shutdown in this case. Holding down the power button in this case is useless :(

This error has me desperate, I don't know what to look at, I'm very happy with the distribution and the portail, it's the only thing that fails it seems that almost like once a month, if the failure is in the sound drivers, why does the keyboard fail and power button?

Thanks a lot

PD: I also think that more than playing the problem is with an intense use of the internal keyboard (that matches the use of games by holding down the key for a long time), in grub I have configured the option pcie_aspm=off because if not dmesg reports AER errors, I suppose there will be a relationship

Re: GIGABYTE AORUS 7 KB Keyboard and power button stops responding

Post by Larry78723 »

You state that it happens "always playing". You may be overrunning your RAM + Swap. I'd recommend increasing your swap to equal your RAM. I'd also recommend that you keep System Monitor open while playing to see what is using the most RAM.

Re: GIGABYTE AORUS 7 KB Keyboard and power button stops responding

Post by Jeronimo17 »

I do not think I will go there, because the PC does not stop responding at any time it is only the internal keyboard + power button, also this last time there was no heavy load on the pc, I was playing through an online gaming service via stream video

Memory: RAM: total: 15.34 GiB used: 2.62 GiB (17.1%)

Add: Another modification that I might have to do with, I use Audacious a lot and had the buffer at 1000ms, that gave me a very high latency so the solution I had was to put tsched = 0 in /etc/pulse/default.pa, I just read that the Intel seem to work better with tsched. I have left it as it comes and in Audacious the buffer at least 100ms now it seems that the latency is correct again

It has happened to me again :(, I have lost the internal keyboard again playing and nothing appears in dmesg or in journalctl

Another thing I think is that I am using "/usr/src/clevo-xsm-wmi-0.1.1" to color the RGB keyboard, if it could be a failure of this driver that freezes it

Same thing control key stuck until I connect a usb keyboard and press it again, internal keyboard remains locked until I do a hardware reset.

And the screen rendering is starting to go wrong.

Edit:
Because new errors have appeared, but the rendering recovers, the internal keyboard never (I haven't rebooted yet).

Re: GIGABYTE AORUS 7 KB Keyboard and power button stops responding

Post by Jeronimo17 »

Seems to be related https://forum.manjaro.org/t/proton-game ... y/70724/19
@megavolt after doing more searching I think I found the cause of the issue, or at least part of it. When proton games turn off the compositor in favour of performance, something happens that causes plasma/KDE to freak out and freeze up
It coincides very much with what happened to me (not for some time).

It could be that now it doesn't happen to me because I switched to Compton and more recently because of rendering problems in the terminal to Composition again but removing this:
Compositor.png

I have also had this option activated for a long time to avoid AER errors in /etc/default/grub:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="pcie_aspm=off nvidia-drm.modeset=1"
Locked
