I have A Canon PowerShot 20X IS, bought about 10 years ago. I’d like to use it as a webcam for Zoom meetings.
Anyone have experience using a digital camera as a webcam?
Any suggestions for info on how to do this?
LM20.2 Cinn recognizes the device when I plug it in but Zoom does not see it.
TIA

If you run cheese, does it find it?

Re: Canon Digital Camera as webcam for Zoom?
Unfortunately, I don't know how to get the camera to run with zoom.
With the camera, two questions arise - whether the thing gets hot in continuous operation - usually video recordings with small digital cameras are therefore limited in time, the camera switches off at some point.
Then the power supply. I don't know whether the camera - like a smartphone - is automatically charged permanently via a the USB connection - and, if so, whether the battery can handle it over a longer period of time.
You would have to test these two aspects in advance anyway - devices usually drop out when it is particularly important ...

I just installed cheese (never used it before).
It appears to be using the built in camera. Do not see option to select the camera when it is turned on. Camera was auto mounted.

I find your idea interesting anyway - I also have some older, small digital cameras lying around that make me wonder what they could possibly be used for.
Re: Canon Digital Camera as webcam for Zoom?
1. The camera needs to have a video out.
2. If it has, you need a capture card.
2. If it has, you need a capture card.
I gloomily came to the ironic conclusion that if you take a highly intelligent person and give them the best possible, elite education, then you will most likely wind up with an academic who is completely impervious to reality.

Camera has HDMI port, but the connector is smaller than normal sized HDMI. So would probably need a new cable or adapter. Then I need a capture card. Canon website does not (or no longer has) have the utility s/w for this camera (made in 1995).
All things considered, I think it would simpler to buy a new digicam with zooming option. Easier & cheaper.
Thanks for all the input.
