Alcor AU6625 Driver install (SOLVED)

Post by jouply »

HI all, like many, my flash card reader doesn't work.

I'v searched and I'm on the good way but I stuck in : how can I install the driver ?

Code: Select all

lspci
Alcor Micro AU6625 PCI-E Flash card reader controller
I'm on Mint 20.2

This is the driver I need to install :

https://linux-hardware.org/index.php?id ... -103c-8478

https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/ ... lcor_pci.c

I've upgrader my kernel from 5.4 to 5.11

Git is installed but when I do this :

Code: Select all

git clone https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/drivers/misc/cardreader/alcor_pci.c
I have a 'repository not found' error.

If you can give me a little help I will be greatfull.

CHeers !

Please post an inxi -Fxpmzr report. This will give us a concise overview of your hardware and how Mint sees it.

Here is how to generate the report and post it:
Open a terminal window (Ctrl-Alt-t). Make it fullscreen to avoid unneeded linebreaks or chopped lines. Copy the following code and paste into the terminal then hit Enter/Return:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxpmrz

Go to Edit, Select All, and then Copy, come back here, click on reply then code tags, </>, and then paste.

The results will help us to help you.

Down.

My research indicates that the only sensible option is to purchase a cheap USB card reader. I figure that you've installed kernel 5.11 in order to get the alcor_pci driver, and your second link to the kernel source lists 6625 as being supported, so you might try sudo modprobe alcor_pci, and if that fails, sudo modprobe alcor. If they both fail then as long as you don't mind having your skin peeled off, your eyes pegged open with toothpicks, and simultaneously having fire ants dropped onto your face and your nether regions, you might try try Ubuntu's OEM 5.13 kernel:

Code: Select all

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04b
This option is undesirable hence the recommendation to buy a cheap plug-in card reader.

Thanks !

I've copied that command and the card did not appear. So I went on disk utility and it shown me the card but in an undetected format. I try with an other and on the disk utility the card I've put before remain on the screen and not the new one inserted ( and command line inserted again).

So yes, I will go with un SD Card reader.

I wrote an other topic about graphic card problem : viewtopic.php?f=49&t=355256

thanks for your answer.

Please start a new thread about a graphic driver problem and include a complete, unedited, inxi -Fxpmzr report.

Re: Alcor AU6625 Driver install (SOLVED)

Post by ke1th3216 »

Good afternoon

I have a similar problem, so I followed most of the advice here. The main exception is against ALL advice, I installed kernel 5.13, over kernel 5.11 that is the standard install in Mint Edge.

Results are that the fist SDCard I plug in after reboot is recognised and useable. I had tried unmounting it in Nemo a couple of times but that left it semi-mounted. I mean it showed in disks, but not in df. And plugging in a 2nd SDCard got no response. So I tried rebooting and umount the SDCard at CLI. This time the 2nd SDCard was recognised and useable. umount it and tried a 3rd card - no response. It is listed at Disks.

My take on things is simply that unmounting is failing to complete. As I'm typing this, sadly I remember I should have checked dmesg. Next time I have time to reboot.

I had decided that my slot had been disabled until I was playing while at a User group meet and decided to try a card it the slot. Nemo opened. I got interested and tried again, with no response. Then I started searching for drivers and came across this discussion - VERY interesting
