Hello. I'm new on this forum so, if this question has been resolved in the past, I apologize for it.
Well, I have installed Linux Mint 20.2 XFCE (based on Ubuntu 20.04) on my PC. It works pretty well after some manual settings.
The problem I have is with the printer. I have installed an EPSON TM-U220 printer (POS Ticket - Dot Matrix Printer) using Epson drivers for linux.
Source of the drivers:
https://download.epson-biz.com/modules/ ... =32&pid=42
I could only make the version 1.0 to work, probably due to an incorrect uninstalling proccess before trying newer versions.
The thing is: the printer is working, it is recognized by the CUPS configuration process, but when I use the PPD file that came with the drivers (to configure the printer), the printer is only capable to print plain text as an image. The result: the text is not as clear as it should be, being printed from a txt file, because the printer applies too many points for every line of text.
This is a problem that I also had on Windows, so I've tried to configure the printer via "Generic Text Only" drivers. It worked on Windows. But I can not make it work on Linux.
After I configure the printer via CUPS (using Generic>Text Only Drivers), it simply does not print anything.
I've also tried using Generic>PostScript Drivers and the printer could print some text, as plain text, but it is some kind of script code mixed with the content of the TXT, what led me to think that this process printed all the coded instructions that were executed behind.
Could anyone teach me how to correctly set this printer, to print tickets as plain text?

Re: Epson TM-U220 - Generic Text Only Printer
I recommend you dump the 'Generic Text Only' driver, so back to the original, and then print from the POS device, or try to print a regular text file, if that is even possible.but when I use the PPD file that came with the drivers (to configure the printer), the printer is only capable to print plain text as an image.
If it still does this, scan the results and show us.because the printer applies too many points for every line of text.

Re: Epson TM-U220 - Generic Text Only Printer
This is an example of a ticket printed using the driver provided by Epson.
The quality of the text is not as sharp as I would like.
This is an example of the plain text quality I'm looking for:
This ticket was printed using a wrong driver (post script generic), but It shows very well the type of printing I would like to get: one point per line and a much more faster printing proccess, since the printer does not pass by the same point many times.

Is RAW printing an option for you? (Will depend on the application you're using.)
Here's a thread where I assisted a user trying to communicate to a POS printer from a Wiindows app via wine....

RAW printing was required so that print data was not filtered in any way.

Thanks, for the suggestion, ferrari2001. I will try the solution you've posted, in a couple of days, and let the forum know how it went.

I've tried the exact method described here. This was the result:
Once again. The result is a plain text, but not the content I was trying to print.

In my initial reply to you I asked which application you are using? The reason for that is that when you print to a RAW printer you also need to take care of printer control language (codes) that may be needed for controlling the printer....adrian0541 wrote: ⤴Sat Sep 25, 2021 8:26 amI've tried the exact method described here. I'm trying to print from a web designed POS App. This App generates a plain text preview which is the one that the printer should print.
Taking care of printer control language is not something I'm familiar with, but I would like to learn how, if you could guide me through the proccess.
By the way. I'm not the designer of the Web App. All I have to work with is the generated text and admin access to the printer settings.

This may need developer assistance then. They should be familiar with the necessary printer comms.adrian0541 wrote: ⤴Sun Sep 26, 2021 8:20 pm I'm trying to print from a web designed POS App. This App generates a plain text preview which is the one that the printer should print.
