Microphone not working [SOLVED]

Post by DoodMann »

So I recently got back into Mint as I need it for online class, but apparently my mic won't work. When i go into settings this is what I see. Image

EDIT: For some reason, when i tried using Discord when I installed it, the mic was working, but very soft as what my friends say. I rebooted. Mic gone.

Hello,
You've a very old hardware for LM20.x according to your signature. Maybe you should consider using a previous and less demanding version of LM (19.2 has a 4.15 kernel which may support old hardware - a try from the USB ISO can't harm)..
Perhaps a system info as required in most help cases should refine matters. Please post output of :

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxz
dual boot LMDE4 (mostly) + LM19.3 Cinnamon (sometimes)

Seems your hardware does what it can. But before installing 19.2, perhaps we can just borrow an idea of its Release notes, § Sound and microphone issues :
If you're facing issues with your microphone or your sound output, please install "pavucontrol".

This will add "PulseAudio Volume Control" to your menu. This application has more configuration options than the default volume control.

Command line instruction :

Code: Select all

sudo apt install pavucontrol
dual boot LMDE4 (mostly) + LM19.3 Cinnamon (sometimes)

Glad to know the tip helped. In fact that Release Note is in all LM versions.
