GMA-500 (Poulsbo) and Mint 8

Post by ambertone »

Again this nasty rears it's ugly head. I've read several threads about getting this Intel video chip going but they all fail due to the Ubuntu sources being missing (or removed)

Does anyone know how to get this going in Mint 7 or Mint 8? A good tutorial is needed for this as there are so many mini notebooks out there using this chipset. It made me laugh that even the Intel sponsored Moblin does not support Poulsbo. (and it actually states this on the website) I'm also aware that Ubuntu has officially anounced that they will not be supporting Poulsbo.

Cheers

Rod

There are only ten posts about poulsbo in the forum! (including one by me that did not do any good....)
I know the situation is better for Intel in Helena but if that goes for Poulsbo as well I don't know

This is the problem, these repo's do not exist. I hate to say it but I get an uneasy feeling this is a Windows only netbook.

Not sure if they work. I've got a dell mini 10 myself and linux mint works on it with the software I got from the jaunty rep that apperently no longer exists? But it works only on kernel 2.6.28-14.
I'm gonna reboot now and see if psb-kernel-source 4.41.6 works on newer kernels.

This version seems to work on kernel 2.6.31-15. I lost my "wide" resolution though.

[EDIT]I followed the new method on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport ... rdsPoulsbo, works like a charm now.[/EDIT]

Some months ago, I made it work on my laptop but recently, it seems I've done something wrong and my screen didn't show up anymore ...
Now it's back but not fully and I reinstalled the driver through the scripts but still, I cannot set compiz to on or watch video smoothly ... what should I do next? Is there some settings I can play with to make everything work again?

Same problem with my Acer Aspire 751h. It must be a political $$ problem. I found a distro called JoliCloud that runs fine on my PC however. Personally I'm a Kubuntu fan but it's not a bad distro and I recommend it. Even if you don't use it for everything, it is well designed and offers everything you need for everyday computing.
