Unable to Use GSmartControl

Post by jc1 »

My systems periodically freezes up and I get errors such as:

Code: Select all

[ 746.356139] EXT4-fs error (device nvme0n1p7): ext4_find_entry:1463: inode #11272210: comm systemd-udevd: reading directory iblock 0
I'll go in and unmount and run `fsck -f /` which fixes some errors, then I'll reboot. I'm trying to run GSmartControl, but when i double click on it, I get "no more information available about this drive". This is unlike a USB stick, where I get a pop up where I can run self tests.

I tried to do this from SystemRescueCD on a USB stick, but I get the same results. Is there anything else I can do to try to troubleshoot/fix the EXT4-fs issue?

GSmartControl, while running Linux Mint:

Code: Select all

[ 746.356139] EXT4-fs error (device nvme0n1p7): ext4_find_entry:1463: inode #11272210: comm systemd-udevd: reading directory iblock 0
Is that written in /var/log/kern.log.1? If not, where which log is it?
I'll go in and unmount and run `fsck -f /` which fixes some errors
What kind of errors get fixed?

Is this a problem drive, or you are just speculating about system freezes?

I see you are using the 5.11 kernel. I'm just speculating that the 5.4 kernel might work better for you. Do you want to try that?

Here is another post that might help others:
