Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal: inxi -Fxxxrz
Click </> from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware.

My first thought would be to try a different kernel.

Did this computer come with the 5.10-oem kernel? I'm wondering why you are using it instead of the 5.11 kernel which is available in Update Manager.

There is also a 5.13-oem kernel available.

This was the natural update of linuxmint

The 5.10-oem kernel is only a natural update of Linux Mint if you had the 5.6-oem kernel installed prior to the 5.10-oem kernel. Those OEM kernels are not the normal Mint kernels.

If you want to try the newer kernels to see if they help, you can install the 5.11 kernel using Update Manager.
Instructions for upgrading to the 5.11 kernel:
 • Open Update Manager.
 • Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue.
 • Make sure 5.11 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear.
 • Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.
To install the latest 5.13-oem kernel, open a terminal and type (or cut and paste) sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04c and reboot.

If they do not work, you can always get back to an older kernel by booting into grub, selecting Advanced Options, and then selecting the older kernel from the list. You would then go into Update Manager and remove the newer kernels.

This is the first time I'm hearing of this type of problem, so I do not know if the newer kernels will help.

You did not get a warning message about hardware acceleration with this kernel, did you? That message means the video driver did not install. You do not want to get that message.

While typing, is a thumb accidentally touching the Touchpad? My suggestion is go to settings and switch off the Touchpad if a mouse inserted or switch it off while typing. You have the two options. If no mouse, try the second option.

System Settings > Hardware > Mouse & Touchpad > Touchpad > General and 3 options there.

All I can suggest is the next time that happens, run the following in a terminal:
dmesg -T | tail -n 100
Maybe there will be an error message we can investigate.

Re: Keyboard Problem on new Thinkpad Lenovo L15 GEN2 i3 11th generation

I do not see anything in the output that gives me ideas of what might be happening.

Since you originally posted, a newer 5.14-oem kernel became available. Maybe switching to it will help because your computer is very new.

Install the latest 5.14-oem kernel with sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04d and reboot.

Okay. I just wanted to let you know than in the time that has passed since you started this topic more new kernels became available. It is possible a newer kernel might help with the keyboard issue.

Did you upgrade to the newer kernel with the terminal command I gave you or did you just update the kernel using Update Manager?

What is the output of

Code: Select all

uname -r
If it does not have 5.14-oem in the name, then please run the following command in a terminal and then reboot the computer.

Code: Select all

sudo apt install linux-oem-20.04d
