Re: internal mic and camera not working
Hi AndyMH,
thanks for the welcome. I'm glad if you were able to help others with my advices. I hope so in any case. I have to see, if I can find the time to come back here more often. Let's wait and see what goldiesc reports.

Re: internal mic and camera not working
Thanks for the contributions to what is hopefully a pending solution:
Probe results: https://linux-hardware.org/?probe=f14b3fb0c2
More to come - I need to figure out how to create the bootable usb drive. Can I use wine to create the bootable usb drive? I do not have access to a windows machine that I can use to create the usb drive.
Thanks for the assistance and coaching.

Well, I find this interesting. Following the initial steps on viewtopic.php?p=1917564#p1917564, the resulting output:
Code: Select all
scott@scott-Latitude-E6400:~$ sudo apt-get install v4l-utils
[sudo] password for scott:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
v4l-utils is already the newest version (1.18.0-2build1).
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
scott@scott-Latitude-E6400:~$ v4l2-ctl --list-devices
Cannot open device /dev/video0, exiting.
scott@scott-Latitude-E6400:~$

Re: internal mic and camera not working
Hello goldiesc,
I know now, why the uvcvideo module was loaded: you simply executed the modprobe uvcvideo command AndyMH has given to you and didn't reboot the laptop in between. So, it's not a hint for a webcam. Until now there ist nothing related to an integrated webcam. Also the lspci shows nothing for this, although you believe it could be a Ricoh device. But the only Ricoh devices are a firewire port and the card reader & controller.
If you are sure, that you observed a working webcam with Windows, I see the only possibilty now with Hirens Boot CD to get the necessary informations. If you can't find a hint under Windows the conclusion can only be, that your webcam is why also ever dead/broken or, you laptop has no integrated webcam, although it looks like this, because as mentioned above the webcam was only an optional feature. The laptop case for both variants are the same. So please give the Windows Live System a try.
Or maybe only the webcam-cable on the motherboard has come loose.

Re: internal mic and camera not working
I guess another alternative is that I can procure an external webcam for this purpose. Anyone have any recommendations?
Re: internal mic and camera not working
I can recommend the Logitech C270 HD Webcam: inexpensive with good picture and sound quality and it works of course out of the box with Linux. I use it myself on my desktop PC.

Re: internal mic and camera not working
Thanks to @ANDYMH and HAWR for their help. I bought a C270HD webcam from Logitech and am now able to share my ugly mug with others who deserve it.
I will follow up with the Windows USB Stick to boot and determine if I do have a camera or not.
If I do, I will likely attempt to compile from source. If not, I am set.
Thanks for the help,
Goldiesc.

Re: internal mic and camera not working
Hello goldiesc,
I am curious to see what results you get, both with the C270 and with the Windows boot.
