Re: no video hardware acceleration
Hi Rick,
I'm not familiar with VMware, but I do use Oracle's VM Virtualbox. I've had similar errors in the past.
Try changing your Graphics Controller (term used in Virtualbox) to another option if there are any. Sometimes the recommended one isn't always the one that works best for a virtual machine.
Example: I have Manjaro Xfce as a VM and the recommended graphics controller VMSVGA doesn't work properly. I had to change it to VBoxSVGA.
Re: no video hardware acceleration
unfortunatly I dont have that option. Is there a way in Mint to change to a different video, or load a different driver? Drive updater doesn't find anything
Thanks for the reply and help

Re: no video hardware acceleration
Please give us information about your install by entering this command in a terminal:
inxi -Fxxxrz
Click
</>
from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply and then place your cursor between the code markers and paste the results of the command between the code markers
Results
. This will let us know how Mint sees your hardware.A woman typing on a laptop with LM20.3 Cinnamon.
Re: no video hardware acceleration
As suggested twice by SMG, please provide the inxi information.
I just briefly read about VMware and its graphics handling. It tries to use the computer's actual graphics (passthrough) instead of having the vm provide a graphics controller (like Oracle's VirtualBox)
Having the inxi will shed some light on the issue.

Your answer may be exact for professional pay versions of VMware, but not for VMware workstation player (pay or free) which uses its own "svga3d" driver; it is more efficient than VBox drivers, since it allows to have OpenGL 4.5 on a Windows guest (provided you have an NVidia GPU) while VBox allows only OpenGL 2.1.
OP needs to give more information about his system: has he a Linux host, or does he run Linux as guest? what is its system configuration (inxi output if he runs Linux as host)? what is the complete name of his virtual machine software (VMware workstation Player for Linux? for Windows? VMware Workstation for Linux? for Windows? etc.), its version? What is the OS used as guest? Has he installed VMware tools?...
Regards,
MN

Re: no video hardware acceleration
Hi,
See here the way to proceed in order to have 3D acceleration in your guest https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Works ... C5788.html
Did you install VMware tools inside your Linux Guest?
Regards,
MN

Re: no video hardware acceleration
Yes, you did it correctly.
VMWare is using its graphics drivers for your install of Mint. Because of that, there may be limits as to how much we can help you because this issue could be related to the VMWare software.
Graphics:
Device-1: VMware SVGA II Adapter driver: vmwgfx v: 2.15.0.0
bus ID: 00:0f.0 chip ID: 15ad:0405
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.11 driver: vmware
unloaded: fbdev,modesetting,vesa resolution: 800x600~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 12.0.0 256 bits) v: 4.5 Mesa 21.0.3
compat-v: 3.1 direct render: Yes
The llvmpipe means software rendering is happening. Cinnamon checks to see whether hardware rendering is happening and alerts the user when it is not.
Let us know if the link MikeNovember provided helps you.
