Touchpad AND keyboard not working

Post by Bnof007 »

Hello!
It's my first time using Linux, I found the Mint distro good and lightweight for me. Well, I've installed the Xfce version, I don't know if it has something to do with my problem. Does it have touchpad and built-in keyboard support?

Here is the system info:

I did some search related to this problem, tried some possible solutions and nothing worked for me. :(
Thanks for any help!

[Edit] I've noticed that my "Mouse and Touchpad" application doesn't have the "touchpad tab"...

Could you please let us know what you tried.

Also, please open a terminal and let us know what the output of xinput is.

I've tried this:
"1. sudo apt update
2. sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
3. sudo apt update
4. sudo apt purge --auto-remove xserver-xorg-input-all && sudo apt install xserver-xorg-input-all
4.1. confirm action with Y upper-case
5. sudo apt update
6. sudo reboot"

I've tried to follow this another tutorial (in PT-BR), but I didn't understand some steps :?

There is a difference between the touchpad and keyboard not working even though they show up in the system as being available and them not even showing up in the output. If they do not show up in the output, then it does not matter what driver you install because there is nothing for the driver to work with.

The only keyboard or mouse showing up in your output are the external ones you are using.

Does the keyboard and/or touchpad work if you go into the BIOS/UEFI of the computer? In other words, do you know for sure the keyboard actually works?

I found several threads on the Acer website where people were having problems with their keyboards not working--and that was in Windows.

When it had Windows installed both keyboard and touchpad worked normally.

This time I've recorded a video booting the notebook (sorry for the awful quality!! ):

I believe you. I just wanted to make sure we were not trying to do the impossible. ;)

I really do not know what might be happening, but I searched and found a couple of ideas to try.

This is an older link Keyboard doesn't works on XFCE (but it works!)?, but the person installed xserver-xorg-input-libinput and the keyboard started working.

And this even older thread https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?29206-Kali2-Xfce-Keyboard-stops-working mentions something about a "slow keys" setting in Xfce. This is the first time I've heard of such a thing and do not know if it might relate to the issue you are seeing.

I don't know what happened... lol

Well, this weekend I'll install the LM Mate version, I hope it solves this issue... =)

Thanks for all your effort!! If the issue will be solved or not I'll post here!

There is a kernel parameter i8042.dumbkbd=1 which might help this situation.

You can use the following information How to add a kernel parameter to temporarily or permanently add the parameter. If you add it temporarily and it does not work, you just need to reboot to clear it from the system.
