[SOLVED] Touchpad not working on Acer Nitro 5

Post by ItsJohnny »

Okay, here's the deal: I've bought a brand spanking new Acer Nitro 5 AN515-57, installed Linux Mint 20.2 Uma with Cinnamon, and my touchpad isn't working.

It's definitely detected:

Code: Select all

$ xinput list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2	[master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4	[slave pointer (2)]

⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3	[master keyboard (2)]

    ↳ Power Button id=8	[slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Sleep Button id=9	[slave keyboard (3)]
↳ SINO WEALTH USB KEYBOARD id=11	[slave keyboard (3)]

↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboard id=15	[slave keyboard (3)]
    ↳ Acer WMI hotkeys
I've tried the usual stuff, ie. installing the synaptics and evdev drivers, up- and downgrading the kernel, tweaking the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINU_DEFAULT, but to no avail. Please help.

Here's my system info:

Tried, as already mentioned - and ran into even more problems. Touchpad didn't work.

Tried the 5.13.0-22-generic, and not only my touchpad doesn't work, my WiFi doesn't either. I tried tethering from my phone, but again, no bueno.
Here's my inxi -Fxxrzc0 output on 5.13:

Seems like the drivers for my network card just disappeared. Any way to fix that without internet access on 5.13?

Sorry, I overlooked that. Well, then I'm out of options, someone else will be able to help you better.

No problem, I'll try to find a fix for the WiFi issue on the newer kernel, and maybe then I'll manage to figure the touchpad out.

Managed to fix the touchpad - there was an option in the UEFI allowing to choose either PS/2 or i2c mode. While trying to make the touchpad work I changed it to PS/2 and forgot to revert it after kernel update.

So, to sum it all up, I'm on kernel 5.13, with touchpad mode in UEFI set to i2c, and everything is fine now. Thanks for the suggestion!

I got the same machine with the same problem. Where is this setting?

TIA.

It's in the BIOS accessed by F2, while in the Advanced menu press Crtl-S to see the touchpad option.
I'm dealing with the above problem but will make a new post because I'm on Cinnamon 20.3 kernel 5.13.0.44 touchpad set to i2c and tried synaptics, libinput, and enver drivers and nothing works.
