[SOLVED] Wacom tablet works but graphical interface will not launch
I just got a wacom Intuos drawing tablet CTL-4100k-N, it seems to be working ok.
But when I tried to open the graphical interface for it, so I can adjust my buttons.
The program doesn't launch. Infact it shuts down my systems settings window instead when I click on the Graphics tablet icon.
Is this a bug? Or is there some other issue?
And how do I get around the issue without having to be an expert programmer?

Re: Wacom tablet works but graphical interface will not launch
Possibly. Old bug but last response was May this year.
https://github.com/linuxwacom/libwacom/issues/281
If all else fails xsetwacom may work, that's what I'm using with xfce.

Re: Wacom tablet works but graphical interface will not launch
I'm using the Cinnamon desktop and I have had the same issue on a laptop and my desktop.
When I click on the mint Icon on the left side of the screen and go to my systems settings, I click on the icon for tablets and it just closes down my systems settings window instead. The program does not launch. Without it I cannot adjust the buttons on my tablet and pen or anything else it may offer
As for the link iliketrains, has offered. It could solve the issue, if I knew what the hang to do with the information. I am greatful for the the attempt at helping me. But as I said I'm no master programmer. I couldn't make heads or tails of it. Let alone where to use it or how.
Knowing how to put on a OS on my pc is about as far as my computer skills go. And any extra instructsions need to be detailed right down to its finest detail for me to click and paste somewhere.
Which thankfully in general notes on how to do things is getting better. Which is why I am now on Linux. But every now and then, I hit a road block like this and I'm left scratching my head. Usually I just leave it and come back later to see if someone solved the problem. Usually within a few months it has been. But a drawing tablet, even a 'cheap' one is still expensive and is something I want to use now, not in a couple of months to a year or 2 from now.

Re: Wacom tablet works but graphical interface will not launch
I just bought a Wacom Intuos CTL-4100K-N Small and had the same issue.
I found this old thread that helped me fix it: viewtopic.php?t=343532
In my personal case, I had to edit the file
I had to change the line
to
dappermuis3
You'll have to do a bit of Terminal and code stuff, but it's not too hard. I believe you can do it.
If you look in the folder
there are A LOT of files for different Wacom models:
The files relevant for you are those starting with
These files are under the root directory so we need to use admin privileges to edit these files. You can do this in the Terminal:
All of these files start with the model name and number at the top, looks like this:
Further below there is a section
You need to change the last line
Save file, close. Now Graphics Tablet settings should launch. If it doesn't, then try some of the other files that might correspond to your tablet model.

but you'll have to figure out which file corresponds to your specific model. For my Intuos CTL-4100K-N Small, it was the file intuos-s-p3.tablet
so it might be the same file for you. These files are under the root directory so we need to use admin privileges to edit these files. You can do this in the Terminal:

Re: Wacom tablet works but graphical interface will not launch
The link I posted above suggests 2 steps to find which file to edit.
and that will return something like
Wacom Intuos BT M
or maybe
Wacom Intuos BT S
etc
Then
followed by
where 'Wacom Intuos BT M' is whatever the xsetwacom command returned. The single quotes are needed.
Ignore the (android mode) result
Editing the text file needs password
spamegg:
Using the above returns './intuos-m-p3-wl.tablet'
but ./intuos-m-p3.tablet also exists. Do you know why both exist ?
Having a Bamboo I'm only following along with no testing.
Code: Select all
xsetwacom --list devices
Wacom Intuos BT M
or maybe
Wacom Intuos BT S
etc
Then
Code: Select all
cd /usr/share/libwacom/
Code: Select all
grep -rw . -e 'Wacom Intuos BT M'
Ignore the (android mode) result

That's cool, I didn't know those steps/commands!
No, I honestly don't know why all those files exist. I think there are all kinds of different versions of these tablets.
I just checked with
I first tried editing
Anyway, I get:
and
so the only clue I had was the "S", that's why I tried those files.

I just checked with
lsusb
with the tablet plugged-in, and then tried a few files with names that seemed relevant. I first tried editing
intuos-s-p3-android.tablet
but that didn't work, then I tried intuos-s-p3.tablet
and that worked.Anyway, I get:
Code: Select all
➜ xsetwacom --list devices

Wacom Intuos S Pen eraser id: 14 type: ERASER
Wacom Intuos S Pen cursor id: 15 type: CURSOR
Wacom Intuos S Pad pad id: 16 type: PAD
Code: Select all

Re: Wacom tablet works but graphical interface will not launch
Hi Spamegg
It worked eventually couple of hours of head banging.
And trying more than a few times. Thank you so much
Your instructions were a lot clearer than the link.
And we have the exact same tablet.
I guess I should have also mentioned that I'm slightly dyslexic, so following instructions can be double as hard for me.
I kept trying to do it all in terminal as you didn't say clearly that the file that popped up was where the change had to be done.
I thought it was just info to confirm it was the same tablet.
Eventually out of desperation I tried changing the file that popped up.
I eventually found the save the file instruction at the end of you instructions. The problem was I was following step by step, it kind of came a bit late.
But now it is up and running
