file transfer (Android phone to PC) by USB cable failing
I've been used to transferring photos from my Samsung Galaxy G5 to my Mint PC with a USB cable, but the last three or four times I've tried I get this message.

With the phone connected, in terminal copy & paste the following command and post the results back here..
Try installing these packages and see what happens.
gvfs-mtp and libmtp

You could try adding Warpinator to your Samsung phone from Google Play.
You do not then need to use the USB to transfer data/pictures/files.
Works flawlessly (& swiftly) for me..

May I suggest you use an App called "Sweech" and use your Local WiFi signal, on 5g channels, it is FAST.
