Graphic Glitch/flickering

Post by chenard612 »

Hi everybody.

I have had a problem for some time that I am not able to fix.

My screen glitches a lot and I don't know where this problem comes from.

I have recorded the symptoms and posted them here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/f5FolrZIaak

Originally I thought that my graphic card or hard drive were the problem. I changed them both but the glitches persist.

Here are the output of inxi -Fxmprz:

The first suggestion I would make is to upgrade to a newer kernel series. The 5.4 kernel is available in Update Manager and should be a better match for your computer's CPU. Have you tried the 5.4 kernel yet?

Not just the kernel but also Mint itself could do with upgrading in this instance. There's been improvements to mutter and Cinnamon in Mint 20.3 that improve the stability of graphics output, especially with proprietary nvidia blobs.

That said, I see you are also using a PPA for GPU drivers which is really meant solely for testing and feedback, not general usage.
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

Thanks to you guys I was able to finally sort this problem out. The Linux Mint version I had (19) was too old and upgrading to 20 did the trick. Thanks a lot!

Glad to hear that worked for you. Please go to your first post in this topic, click the pencil icon, and add [SOLVED] to the beginning of the title so others know you are no longer seeking help on this issue.
