Mouse scroll wheel intermittent after upgrade.

Post by Bob Fletcher »

I have just done the upgrade from LM 20.3 to 21. All seems OK except for the mouse./
The mouse I am using is a Logitech MX Master connected using BT and a Unifying receiver. Solaar is installed.
Scrolling is very intermittent and unreliable. I have tried both Bluetooth and the Unifying receiver nothing any different.
I have got an old Logitech M170 there is some improvement but scrolling is intermittent.
Needless to say, all worked well until I did the upgrade. Changing settings in the setting and through Solaar does nothing. Can anyone help?

Maybe someone else can assist you with a proper fix, but ill just say that I had mouse issues on Cinnamon a while ago but they went away when using Xfce.

so while I can't speak for everyone, Xfce generally seems to have less issues than Cinnamon given my limited experience on the handful of computers I use. but it's your call whether using Cinnamon is a must for you or not.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I love Cinnamon so not keen on changing. I will keep using the M170 mouse and try the MX Master from time to time. I remember years ago it was said never do an update of the OS always a clean install.
Once again thank you.

I understand. I think SMG (a mod around here) might be able to help if she checks this post as I think someone else mentioned their mouse was acting up a while ago. but I don't know if the precise issue is exactly like yours is or not.

Yeah, it seems the following is the general word around here... minor upgrades (i.e. Mint 20.0 to 20.1 to 20.2 etc) are okay, but major upgrades (i.e. Mint 19.x, to 20.x, to 21.x) it's best to clean install.

Yes, what I will do is run a live disk if it is faultless I will install it. Otherwise, look at some other Distros but I prefer to stick to LM.
