X200 Lenova laptop usb mouse won't restart after suspend

Post by dencassmint »

Hi all, 2 weeks ago I installed LM21 on a X200 Lenova laptop, and it runs well. Am using a USB KBD and MOUSE, and have just 1 little problem. Half the time after a suspend, the mouse won't work unless I unplug and reconnect it. The KBD always works OK. Would anyone have a suggestion how to fix this intermittent mouse operation please. Thanks for your time.

Please open the System Reports app and click the System Information tab on the left. Your computer's information should come up in the right pane. Then click Copy, and paste the results into a reply window here so we can see how Linux Mint views your hardware.

Both the mouse and the keyboard are showing in the data.

Code: Select all

Device-1: 2-2.1:19 info: IBM Red Wheel Mouse type: Mouse driver: hid-generic,usbhid rev: 2.0
    speed: 1.5 Mb/s chip-ID: 04b3:310b
Device-2: 2-2.2:20 info: Dell KB212-B Quiet Key Keyboard type: Keyboard
    driver: hid-generic,usbhid rev: 2.0 speed: 1.5 Mb/s chip-ID: 413c:2107
Do you have both of them plugged into ports on the same side of the laptop? If so, can you try one on each side and see if that helps? (if there are ports on the other side)

When problems happen sometimes, but not always, like your issue, they often can be harder to determine. It is possible this might be a power-related issue and having them on opposite sides or just different ports might help.

Hi and thanks for your suggestion about trying USB ports on opposite sides. I have tried that but it did not change the problem. I forgot to mention that Mint 20 was working on this laptop prior to this intermittent mouse problem and I tried another mouse but it was the same fault.
The mouse is always running OK after a power off reset.

The only idea I have right now is to check dmesg after you resume from suspend to see if there is any indication of what might be happening.

Code: Select all

dmesg -T | tail -n 200
