How to recover Read only USB Device

Post by Sri M »

After a long search I came to know that, the usb is in read only mode. So, I have tried formating it using disk application. But format disk and format partition is not enabled.

So, tried to creating partition using gparted. gparted -> Device -> Create Partition -> msdos
But it shows as below,

And view -> file system support

Is there any way I could recover the USB or its time to through this away?

To post essential details about your PC setup: Plug in all relevant dongles, accessories, and peripherals. Then

Open a Terminal (ctrl-alt-T), then copy-and-paste the following line of green text into the Terminal window, then tap Enter...

Code: Select all

C=code];echo "[$C`inxi -Fxxxmprzc0;mokutil --sb-state;lsusb;lsblk -fir;lspci -nnk;cat /proc/cmdline;dkms status`[/$C"|xed -
Within several seconds, xed text editor pops open, showing technical data useful for others to analyze PC & peripheral issues.

Copy-and-paste everything from xed into a Reply here. < The required [code] tags have been added for you />

The only thing that my browser shows, for every image that you may have posted here, is just the word "Image". Literally. Nothing else.

They are as useless here as pictures of kittens.

To post technical data about your PC hardware and system software, follow the step-by-step instructions that I have given.

Oh, sorry for that!

There is an issue with usb device, which is set to read only mode (write protected).
Command
sudo hdparm -r0 /dev/sdb
Output
/dev/sdb:
setting readonly to 0 (off)
readonly = 1 (on)

By any chance it can be turned off ?

Note: After running C=code];echo "[$C`inxi -Fxxxmprzc0;mokutil --sb-state;lsusb;lsblk -fir;lspci -nnk;cat /proc/cmdline;dkms status`[/$C"|xed - got this,

No, that is not what you got. Not some screen image.

If you run Mint, what you got was the xed text editor open with the requested tech data, to copy-and-paste into a reply here.

None of those Google images will show in my browser -- and I wouldn't accept them for examination if they did.
